The Beaver County Law Enforcement Memorial, located on the courthouse grounds in Beaver, PA, honors the memory of police officers who lost their lives in the performance of their official duties. In a ceremony held May 14, two officers who lost their lives in 2020 were honored: Chief Robert W. Sealock of the City of Aliquippa Police Department and Chief Mark J. Romutis of the Ambridge Borough Police Department.

Chief Sealock was attempting, along with other officers, to make an arrest. During the attempt, he began having difficulty breathing and lost consciousness. He passed away seventeen days later.

Chief Romutis died of Covid-19. In 2020, law enforcement officers and other first responders throughout the country contracted Covid-19 during the world-wide pandemic due to the requirements of their job. Many first responders have died as a result of Covid-19 and continue to do so. Chief Romutis was one of these officers.

Dedicated in 2003, the memorial is the result of a collaboration among Beaver Valley Chiefs of Police Association, Beaver Valley Lodge #4 F.O.P., James M. Naim Memorial Lodge #26, the Beaver County Sheriff’s Office, the District Attorney’s Office of Beaver County, and the Beaver County Commissioners. The annual memorial service is held at the site in May on National Peace Officers’ Memorial Day. Over the past 90 years, eighteen law enforcement officers have died in Beaver County in the performance of their official duties. The names of those officers are on the Law Enforcement Monument.
